Asthma Treatment

Identification of the triggers proves to be the most effective treatment of asthma. Identify the triggers and avoid exposure to them. Smoking has been the greatest enemy to the people with respiratory problems. It produces even more adverse effects in case of an asthma patient.

The severity of the effect includes high heart beat, decline of lung functions. It also decreases the capacity to respond to the medications.

Smoking habits in asthmatic patients invites the intake of a lot of additional medicines to control the asthma attack. Besides, exposure to a secondhand smoke is more harmful and it results in frequent visits to the hospital's emergency ward. Therefore, smoking is highly restricted for asthmatic patients.

The treatment of asthma depends upon the severity level in the patients. It also depends upon the frequency of symptoms manifesting.

Two of the standard methods of treatment are typically use by doctors:

1. The Expert panel report 2: Guidelines for the diagnosis and management of asthma (EPR-2) of the US National Asthma Education and Prevention Program.
2. British guidelines on the management of asthma.
A short term relief can be obtained by the use of Bronchodilators. Patients suffering from occasional attacks do not need any other medication.

For the patients who suffers two mild attacks a week a low dose inhaled glucocorticoids or an alternative oral leukotriene modifier is advised. Patients suffering daily attacks are advised higher dose of Glucocorticoid in conjunction with a long-acting inhaled -2 agonist. In case of severe attacks oral glucocorticoids can be given during the attack.

People who suffer asthma attacks because of doing exercise are highly affected by a high level of ventilation, cold and dry air.

Hence, the situations in which such a person is bound to breathe heavily worsen the attack even more. For instance, cross-county skiing might prove to be a worse situation for asthmatic patients. Swimming in a moderately heated pool rarely gives rise to the asthmatic symptoms.

Some fatal diseases are there which are already well recognised and they have made mass of people their victims all around the globe. Asthma is one of them. The prime cause of asthma is narrowness in respiratory tract which leads to breathing shortness, wheezing and coughing. Different triggering agents like allergens and some environmental factors and eating habits are responsible for the development of this disease in human beings.
People of every age are found to be the victims of asthma all over the world. Even younger and new born children are not intact from this dreadful disease.
